About the Chinese Courses

Who are the instructors?
All our instructors for the Chinese courses have at least a bachelor's degree and extensive Chinese teaching experience. They are fluent in both Chinese and English. They understand the lifestyle students live with English as the primary language. The teachers enjoy teaching and are kind, patient, and adaptable to classroom interactions. Our instructors will provide homework feedback and communicate with parents in a timely manner.
Who can attend the class?
Any K-10 students can attend grade specific classes by following the Meizhou Chinese curriculum. Additionally, any high school students in Grades 9-12 can attend the AP Chinese class if they have finished the regular Chinese curriculum, such as Meizhou Chinese, and plan to take the AP Chinese Language and Culture Test in one or two years.
What will students learn in the class?
For the K-10 students, we will follow a curriculum based on the textbook  MeiZhou Chinese (美洲华语). Students will learn PinYin and simplified Chinese.
For the AP Chinese class, we will follow the guidelines provided by the College Board for the AP Chinese Language and Culture Exam. This will be reflected in the instructions and practice tests. More specifically, it will cover the themes including families, identity, beauty and art, science and technology, quality of life, and environmental, political, and societal challenges. See  syllabus .
Why should students learn Chinese with Yucai?
The curriculum, Meizhou Chinese, is closely aligned with the Chinese Advanced Placement Program (AP). The textbooks were written by following the Standards for Foreign Language Learning and National Assessment Educational Progress Framework. It emphasizes communication, cultures, connections, comparisons, and communities. The communication includes interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational modes. Students who live in the United States can relate the Chinese learned in school with their daily life.
For the AP Chinese class, we will have group lessons and practice tests. We also provide online tools for students to learn at their own pace.
Our online program can be tailored to students’ schedules. We will use multimedia and most recent technologies to support instructions and keep students engaged in the classroom. All our teachers are passionate about teaching and are patient with students. We will provide periodical training and professional support to our teachers.
